Saturday 22nd February

Pub and pub

I look forward to seeing you at either or both venues but as my recent lottery win was somewhat short of the anticipated £7,000,025 I cannot afford to buy everybody a drink! Both pubs are dog friendly.

KINGS ARMS, 25 Roupell St, SE1 8TB

Waterloo station/underground

Our day starts here at 11.15 and we shall be in the public bar which is the right hand door. Spot the array of French classic cars parked outside. At 12.40 we shall migrate to:-

THREE STAGS, 67-69 Kennington Rd, Lambeth, London SE1 7PZ

Waterloo station / Lambeth North underground. The pub is opposite the Imperial War Museum.

Arriving around 1 o’clock. This is the lunch venue.

Please let me know if you are coming (whether you plan to eat or not) as I will be reserving a table.

Please order and pay for food at the bar to keep things simple. Any special diet please let me know in advance.

Sunday 23rd February

Limehouse Walk and lunch (or just lunch)

The walk is almost all over paved roads and paths but there is a short section of canal which can be slightly muddy if it’s been wet so be shod accordingly.

A historic walk (with my own commentary!) through the old docklands and into the City. Starting at Westferry DLR station (meeting at 10:30 facing Spice Merchants restaurant on the south-west side of the station) and thence through Limehouse and Shadwell to lunch at 12:30 at the wonderful Captain Kidd in Wapping – an establishment laudably unspoilt by piped music.

Sorry for less than perfect rendering but hopefully legible. View full-size

After lunch, onward and westward through Wapping, St Katherine’s Dock and the South-East city finishing at The Monument.

Please let me know soonest if you are coming for lunch as I will be reserving a table. If you are only coming to the pub then go to Wapping Overground and turn left/west on exit from the station or get the 100 or D3 bus.

BAD WEATHER PLAN

If looks foul then either straight to the Kidd (opens at 12) or spend an hour or so at the nearby Docklands Museum and thence to the pub. From Westferry, D3 bus (signed Bethnal Green) to Wapping or DLR to Shadwell then Overground to Wapping. I will walk it regardless!

LATE AT THE START?

Catch us up via Limekiln Wharf, Limehouse Church, Limehouse Basin, Thames Path, Shadwell Park, Shadwell Basin….pub!
